Picassiette Portraiture with Artist Gila Rayberg Left Coast Arts Studio
Los Osos, CA June 9-11, 2017 Friday 6-9pm, Sat & Sunday 10am - 5pm $400 per person
Some previous mosaic experience recommended. In this workshop participants will learn to create a mosaic portrait of their own choosing. Emphasis will be on picassiette, using dishes and pottery (in addition to other materials if desired) to develop texture and pattern within your work. Students are encouraged to bring some of their own unique finds (dishes, pottery, teacups, etc) to incorporate into and personalize their works. Part of the joy of picasiette comes from collecting materials. Thrift stores & yard sales finds are perfect, as is clearing out cabinets of chipped, cracked dishes, and those broken bits that you can’t bear to throw away, but would love to incorporated into your art! Bringing extra to share ensures that there will be unique and surprising selections for all. Once registered Gila will send detailed instructions on choosing an appropriate reference image for the workshop. See more about the artist on her website www.gilamosaic.com
Gila Rayberg arrived at the visual arts after a successful career as a freelance musician and educator. Allowing her strong sense of intuition and love of experimentation to guide her, Gila has developed a unique voice in the realm of mosaic portraiture. She exhibits regularly throughout the United States, and has won numerous awards for her expressive mosaic portraits. Gila was featured on HGTV's "Crafters Coast to Coast" and her artwork is published in several art books.
For those of you traveling to beautiful Los Osos for this Workshop here is some information about the area.
The community of Los Osos/Baywood Park (Valley of the Bears) located on the Southern tidal estuary and four-mile sand strand, just south of Morro Bay, on the coast of Central California. This hidden gem of the Central Coast is just a 20-minute drive from San Luis Obispo along cattle grazing and lush agricultural countryside, and a short three-mile scenic drive from Morro Bay, Visitors can reach the area within a few hours drive from several major metropolitan areas.
The community is easily reached from Highway 101 on Los Osos Valley Road or from Highway 1 on South Bay Boulevard.
With a population of approximately 20,000, the town is situated 148 feet above sea level and enjoys a temperate year-round climate.
There are a variety of lodgings available from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay and Cayucos. San Luis Obispo is approximately 20min from the studio. Morro Bay is approximately 10 min. from studio. Cayucos is about 25min. The Central Coast is a popular travell destination so I would recommend booking lodging in advance.
For those flying San Luis Obispo Airport is the closest airport.
Please contact Katie Bariel (owner of Left Coast Art Studio) if you have questions about lodging. 805-459-6080 or em: firstname.lastname@example.org
